Kyle Morris

About:
Things happen gradually for Kyle Morris. The Fort Wayne, IN singer-songwriter is only now releasing his first album, a delicate series of acoustic portraits titled "Pica."

The album - filled with the hushed dynamics of Morris' guitar playing and his weathered vocals - features songs that teeter between emotive tales of alienation and shining examples of the quiet power of folk imagery.

And it was only about 10 years in the making.

"This album represents years of sitting in my bedroom, plucking away," Morris says. "The songs are real; they're straight from the guts."

Recorded inside Morris' house and the apartment of fellow musician Lee Miles, the album is hauntingly spare, recalling "Nebraska"-era Springsteen. Using only acoustic guitar and occasional piano, organ or harmonica, Morris chose to leave ambient noise picked up during recording untouched. Listen closely and you can hear dripping water in a basement, a car rumbling past a window and cicadas in late summer.

Morris lists everything from Fugazi and Gordon Lightfoot to Chinese folk music and Astor Piazolla's tangos as influences. (Excerpt from an article by Emma Downs)
